Quarter End and the Great Pumpkin

Quarter end is winding down, and I’m feeling a little overworked.  On top of my regular quarter end responsibilities I’ve also had to back a couple people up while they took some time off over the last few weeks.  By the end of last Friday I was ready to do a face plant into bed and not get up until Monday.  So, I made this weekend as relaxing and low key as possible, but still got out so I felt like I didn’t completely waste the weekend.

On Saturday, I went to a pumpkin patch for the first time ever, and picked out my pumpkin.  I like pumpkins because I can keep them out through Thanksgiving.  It’s like they pull double duty so I feel less guilty for buying one since it’s more “economical.”  I was actually going to purchase two, one to carve and one to sit around look pretty, but I quickly figured out I could only carry one.  (Need to start building those arm muscles!)  So, I didn’t carve one this year.  After getting my pumpkin, I grabbed an apple cider slushy and headed home to watch Hocus Pocus and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  I swear, it never gets old.  I enjoy tradition and look forward to watching those same movies year after year.

Today it’s back to the grind.  I hope this week goes by fast!!

Happy April Fools' Day!

I'm not a very creative person, and have never come up with something truly funny to do to my friends, family, or any roommates I've had over the years.  Maybe one day I'll be able to put some of the ideas below to good use.  Until then... these are just amusing.

There is No Gain Without Struggle

We all struggle with something.  In our moments of struggle, it's impossible to think that other people could possibly be feeling the same hurt, frustration, and loneliness we are.  Remember you are not alone.  Struggling is a part of being human.  Without it, we would not appreciate the good things that we have.  Today, recognize that without struggle, we are not driven to be better.  You are better today, than you were yesterday.  Just keep going!  Keep taking steps every day to work towards your goals of personal development.

Why Do People Do What They Do?

Last week, I attended a client meeting with several of my co-workers.  During said meeting, one of my co-workers, and good friend, got up to get water for our guests from a mini fridge in a cabinet located in the meeting room.  But, she wasn't really quiet or discrete about it, and proceeded to slam the cabinet doors, while our guests were speaking. Maybe it's because I've lived in an apartment for too long, and the sound of my neighbors slamming their doors and kitchen cabinets has become a big pet peeve of mine.  But, to me, her actions seemed a little rude.  It got me wondering... why do people do some of the things they do? After doing some Googling, it seems like there are many reasons for why people slam things like doors, cabinets, and toilet seats.  Reasons range from anger, lack of awareness, laziness, selfishness, bad manners, and lack of consideration for others.  I immediately did some self-reflection.  While I'm pretty good about not...
